5/13 Update

Hello Room One Families,

First of all, a HUGE thank you for all of the thoughtful gifts as part of teacher appreciation week!   I received beautiful flowers, fruit, school supplies, cards and other thoughtful gifts.   Thank you very much!!

Here are some important reminders for the week:

  • Book In A Box reports are due on Monday, May 20th.  One week from today!    I have sent home several photo examples and have shared in class with the kids.   Please make the project has your child’s name and the title fo the story on it. :)
  • Tomorrow there is a Site Council meeting  at 4 and a Home and School Club meeting at 5:30.  Both meetings are in the library.
  • Our Spring Book Fair begins on Friday.   Flyers are coming. home in folders today.
  • READING:  In reading groups we are reading literature and focusing on elements of a story.  This includes analyzing challenges that characters face and how they respond to the challenges.
  • MATH:  We are taking some assessments to check in on concepts for the year.  I have broken down the assessments into small chunks so that it doesn’t feel overwhelming.  In addition, we are working on telling time to the nearest 5 minutes.  Please pracice this at home with your child!
  • MULTIPLICATION MAD MINUTES:   Please know that this is OPTIONAL.   Many students are rising to the challenge of trying to complet some multiplication facts in one minute!  This is not a second grade standard, but rather an opportunity to learn and memorize multilication facts.  This will be handy in third grade!     I send home practice sheets in folders.  These are for practice and are NOT homework items to be returned.
  • We will being the final MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment next Monday.  It is computer based and the kids are familiar with it.  This will be the thrd time taking it this year.  Our hope is to see growth!   For math, I have entered every student’s math scores into Khan Academy.   Go to the district website, login with Clever and click on Khan.  Once in Khan, search for MAP and you will see a link to "Map Recommended…”.  Click there for individualized practice items.  You can help your child since it is practice!!!
  • Lastly, there will be no school on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

HOMEWORK: 4/22-26

Optional Math:  Multiplication practice

Special Project: Book in a Box due May 20.

Class Basket for Spring Auction Fundraiser

Second Grade tis putting together a ‘Family Night Basket’.

Please help make our grade level basket a big success!

An Amazon Wish List has been created with items that we will use to put the basket together.  Many of the items are in the $5 - $25 range.

Amazon Wishlist Link:  http://a.co/iLjp7Zv

Helpful Information:

  • The wish list is set to have items shipped directly to a HSC member's house  in Aptos.  Parents can also bring items to the office or my classroom for pick up.
  • Parents who want to purchase items on the Amazon list locally, can let me know and I’ll remove it from the wish list so we don’t end up with any duplicates.
  • Parents can also deviate from the list and get anything else they think would add to the basket.  Gift cards to local businesses, etc…
  • Amazon Gift Cards or cash donations can also be made to help purchase needed items for the basket.

The deadline to turn in all items is March 31st, 2019.

If parents ask about donating other items, services, or events for the silent or live auction, we would love to hear from them!  Please encourage them to get in touch with me.  Feel free to give them my email and / or phone number.
