Theres Learning Oplenty Going on in Room 20!

                                                January 15, 2019

Hello and Happy New Year! Welcome back to the second half of first grade. I trust that you all had a wonderful winter break full of family, friends and fun. This short week we will be getting reacquainted with each other as we remember our first-grade routines and expectations. We all will need to get back into our school-time habits of getting to bed early, eating a good breakfast, and staying focused on our learning for a long day. We are lucky to have the gentleness of a short week to ease back into school.

When we were last together, we were busy sharing family traditions and decorating gingerbread cookies. I want to send out a mighty THANK YOU! to everyone who sent in sweet decorating supplies and/or came in to help with the decorating extravaganza. Everything, from set-up to clean-up, went smoothly because of your help.J

Because this week is short, and we are all going to be readjusting to early mornings and long learning days, there is no homework coming home. If your first grader is eager to jump into a homework routine, invite them to do some sight-word practice and nightly reading and book talk. Official homework will resume next week. I am sending home a bit of finished work that I have finally gotten filed. Please keep in mind that some of it was completed a while ago. (I did out myself as a HORRIBLE filer and work returner, didn’t I?) There is still more to come in the near future, and if you are just dying to come in and help with filing during the next week, just let me know!J

This week we will be looking at the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will look at ways that we can carry on his peaceful message of treating others fairly, with kindness and respect. We will also be setting goals for ourselves for the new year. We will look at ways that we can make the best of 2019!

Have a wonderful week!

Monica

                                           Monica
