Homework

Each week the Yellow homework folder will come home on Monday and should be returned on Friday. Homework every week will include the following:

Reading- 100 book challenge- Read books with or to your parents and record the books you read on the pages in this folder that say “book Title”. Try to read for at least 15-20 minutes each night. Students will receive a certificate for every 10 books they read or read with parents.

Math- Math will usually include a concept we are working on in class or math fact practice. If this work is too easy or too difficult for your child, feel free to modify the work or supplement with alternative math work.

Sight Word Work- Sight word work includes cutting out sight word flash cards and practicing to read and write these words as well as lightning practice- reading sight words quickly to increase reading fluency.

**If you need more time, folders may be kept over the weekend and returned on Monday. If your family is having a hectic, busy week, don’t worry about skipping some or all the homework for the week. Homework should be meaningful, not stressful.

Welcome to Mrs. French's 1st Grade Class!

3/13/22

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your family have had a nice weekend! Here's a few reminders for the next few weeks:

Report Cards- You should have received your child's report card last Friday with their blue folder of finished work. I saw lots of academic/behavioral progress in all of my students.  You may see some areas for your child to work on as well. We have one more trimester to get ready for 2nd grade! Please send back the yellow envelope that your child's report card was sent home in. We'll use it again next trimester.

Masks- As you know, masks are not mandatory at school starting tomorrow. I have decided to continue to wear a mask in the classroom for the time being.  Please discuss with your child whether you want them to wear a mask in the classroom or not. Either way is fine. They will need to be responsible about this, as I can no longer ask students to put their masks on.

Needed Supplies- Thanks to Gus and Worthy's families for sending in some recess snacks and clorox wipes last week. I really appreciate it! Also thanks to Tanner's family for sending in all the supplies to make some bird feeders! To welcome the season of Spring we'll be making these bird feeders this week!

Valencia Garden- Our class has been working with Mrs. Richmond (K Teacher) in small groups in the Garden on Tuesdays! Students have been learning about seeds and plants, picking weeds, and helping to get things ready for planting!

St. Patrick's Day- If your child is making a Leprechaun trap, please have them bring it to school this Wed. March 16. They will be able to show their trap to the class on Wed. Your child should try to wear green on Thursday.

Sincerely,

Mary Ann French
